City-based Gem Hospital has successfully performed robotic whipple’s procedure on a 14-year old girl, claimed to be the youngest patient in the world to undergo such surgery.
The girl was referred to the hospital after being diagnosed with pancreatic tumour called solid pseudo papillary tumor, common among females in their early 20s, according to hospital Chairman and Chief Surgeon Dr C Palanivelu.
He told the media today that robotic whipple’s surgery was successfully The girl was discharged on the fifth day after surgery and there were no scars, he added.
With very quick post-operative recovery, the patient is on normal diet and records proved that this was the youngest patient in the world to undergo this major procedure by robotic approach, Palanivelu said.
The video of the procedure would be shown during two major international conferences to be held in Taiwan and China in June and July, he added.
