Coimbatoreans have been celebrating ever since the city found itself among the chosen places for the Smart City initiative.
“It was very satisfying that Coimbatore has been selected to become a Smart City. The city is home to several natural lakes, and the people of Coimbatore are working towards saving these lakes for our future generations. However, the need of the hour is creating awareness about waste segregation, and its disposal among people, especially children,” Dr. Rajkumar, Mayor of Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation (CCMC), said. He was addressing a gathering of people at the 64th Founder’s Day celebrations of G. Kuppuswamy Naidu Memorial (GKNM) Hospital.
At the function, the Mayor gave away distinguished service awards, performance awards, and meritorious awards to medical and non-medical staff of the GKNM. Staff who completed 25 years of service at the hospital were also awarded. S. Pathy, President of GKNM Hospital, presented these awards.
A press release from the hospital said that GKNM runs three outreach centres in the Coimbatore suburbs that cater to the needs of the old and needy. The hospital is also upgrading itself to perform multi-organ transplant surgeries.
