Union Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar has said that the production capacity of the Heavy Vehicle Factory, on the outskirts of Chennai, will be stepped up. The facility is also likely to be expanded.
Speaking to the media, he said that, in the past, the production of nearly 100 battle tanks was stalled due to the problem with the overheating of the radiators. The issue was solved recently, and as a result, the production is all set to increase.
The Heavy Vehicle Factory, founded in 1965, near Avadi, on the outskirts of Chennai, manufactures war equipment, including the armed forces’ most reliable and popular battle tank, the sturdy Arjun, the T-90s, Vijayantas, and the T-72s.
