Drinking water would be supplied once in 12 days in view of poor water storage levels recorded in all resources including Siruvani, Aliyar, and Bhavani water supply systems.

The decision was arrived at a consultative meeting convened by the CCMC Commissioner, Dr. K. Vijayakarthikeyan, recently.

“Following South West and North East monsoon failures the storage level in Siruvani and Azhiyar dams have dipped.

Instead of the stipulated 9.6 crore litres, which is to be drawn from Siruvani dam every day, a mere 3 crore litres were drawn till recently. Regular water supply was carried out only in 33 wards till few days back. Pillur and Kaundampalayam – Vadavalli integrated water supply system too failed to meet the demand,” say Corporation officials.

Contingency measures were put in place by the civic body to meet the water scarcity position in the civic body limits. Instead of 18 water tankers 24 water tankers would be pressed into service to supply drinking water to slum and hutment areas.
