Tragedy struck a family in Peelamedu when a 16-year old girl committed suicide yesterday, fearing that she would fail, a day before the SSLC results were announced.

But the results announced today showed that R Shalini of Vinobaji Nagar passed and the school secured centum, police said.

The parents grew suspicious when Shalini did not come out of the room where she had been since afternoon.

They broke open the door and found the girl lying unconscious on the floor. She was rushed to the Government Hospital but died later last night, police said.

It is suspected that she consumed pesticides.
