First leg of INRC, IRC rally begins tomorrow

The MRF Rally of Coimbatore would begin here tomorrow. Around 39 teams are expected to participate in the rally. The championships would have five rounds in different parts of the country.

The Round I of the INRC and MRF Rally of Coimbatore would cover a total of 200 kms that include 75km special stages (driving tracks) on gravel roads. The routes of the stages are closed sections of public and private roads. The six special stages of the rally would be covered by the teams tomorrow in and around Kethanur on the city outskirts.
For non-Indian drivers an individual championship (IRC) would be held simultaneously.

The Federation of Motor Sports Club of India (FMSCI), Indian National Rally Championship (INRC) 2016 and MRF Rally started its proceedings with the Shakedown here today at the Jenney’s Club.

Shakedown, a concept introduced this year, is a procedure conducted to provide some pre-rally practice to the competing teams.

Addressing the media, Arindam Ghosh RRPM director hoped that the event would be a great success. “We are excited to be here to kick off the MRF FMSCI and IRC 2016 season. The MRF rally has been a great event and I am confident that the Coimbatore Auto Sports Club (CASC) will organise the event to perfection,” he said.

Top drivers including Gaurav Gill, Amitraj Ghosh and Sunny Sidhu of Team Mahindra Adventure and Arjun Rao Arror, Rahul Kanthraj, Karna Kadur are participating in the rally.

The INRC received 36 entries through its various categories, being INRC overall up to 3500cc cars including turbo factor, INRC 2000cc and FMSCI Cup for vehicles homologated prior to 31st December 2007 while the IRC, which is still at nascent stage, received the remaining three with Evo VIII of Abhilash PG and Evo X of Samir Thapar being the top contenders in this championship.

The results of the INRC and IRC would be individual. Top three winners would be awarded a cash prize of Rs. 50,000, Rs. 30,000 and Rs. 20,000 respectively and a trophy. The first of the five rounds INRC and IRC would take place on July 23 and 24 here while the next four rounds would be held in Nashik, Gurgaon, Bengaluru and Chikmagalur respectively.
