Kerala Minister Chandy encroached land for resort, says Collector’s report

Kottayam: Transport Minister Thomas Chandy has been found guilty of encroaching and violating various land act.

The violations were on the basis of the report of the District Collector’s report comparing satellite images of 2013 with that of now.

These data shows variation in geography of the area due to encroachment and reclaiming of lake for modifying Chandy’s Lake Palace Resort.

The report has suggested a detailed probe into this.

The Collector has also summoned staff of Water World to appear for hearing in the collectorate on September 26.

In a related development, Alappuzha municipality has cancelled the tax relief enjoyed by the resort since 2004.

The municipality has directed the resort management to return the tax sops to the municipality for violation in construction of the resort in 2000.
