KMCH workshop on vascular suturing begins

Liver series-II, the two-day workshop organised by the Liver Institute of the Kovai Medical Centre Hospital, began here today. More than 100 general surgeons and practicing clinicians are participating in the workshop that would impart specialised knowledge on vascular suturing and livery surgery.

Addressing the participants, Dr. Nallai G. Palanisami, chairman of KMCH said the hospital had so far performed 50 liver transplants successfully ever since the procedure was started in the hospital a year ago. “Through this workshop, our experts’ team are passing down the expertise and knowledge in the area. KMCH, as an institution, has always focused on education upcoming talents by way of organising regular workshops and clinical sessions. Our institution is one of the pioneers in performing liver transplants in the west region of the State,” he said.

In his address, Dr. S. Vivekanandan, head of the Liver Institute, said institute decided to introduce aspiring surgeons to various techniques available for them through the workshop. “Suturing of blood vessels and liver resection techniques have always been Achilles Heel for every surgeons,” he added.

The workshop is aimed at Gastro Intestinal Surgeons with special interest in liver surgery or who wish to pursue a career in liver transplantation.

The participants would be briefed about the various techniques on animal tissues and would be mentored by the experienced faculty.
