With an aim to bring the City back to its old glory of maintaining peace, unity and communal harmony, a few like-minded political parties and organisations have joined hands and formed ‘Kovai People Forum’, which will be launched on August 21 here.
After 1990, the city witnessed frequent communal tension, intolerance, murders and violence following animosity between a section of Hindus and Muslims, disturbing peace and communal harmony.
To bring back the glory and maintain peace and unity, leaders of different like minded organisations with Marx, Ambedkar and Periyar ideologies and with democratic and secular credentials, will share the platform on that day, Forum sources said.
Senior CPI-M Politburo member Prakash Karat, DMK MP Kanimozhi, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal founder-president Thirumavalavan, former CPI MP K. Subbarayan, Congress district leader Mayura Jayakumar, MDMK leader R.R. Mohankumar and Thanthai Periyar Dravida Kazhagam general secretary K. Ramakishnan will be among those sharing the dais on that day, they said.
