In yet another scenario of girls succumbing to cybercrimes, a 21-year-old girl from Salem committed suicide after morphed pictures of her were released on a social media website by culprits.
According to sources, A. Vishnupriya was an undergraduate science student at a private arts and science college in Salem. Her father, Annadurai, was a weaver. Vishnupriya had created a Facebook account and had added pictures of her. To her shock, she discovered that some culprits had downloaded her images and had morphed her face with the half-naked body of another woman.
Shocked with the postings, Vishnupriya lodged a complaint with the Magudanchavadi Police Station four days ago. But the police couldn’t find the culprit till date.
Meanwhile, a very distraught Vishnupriya committed suicide at her residence on Monday by hanging.
Reacting to this, psychologist Venkatesh told the Covai Post that girls should be mentally strong enough to face such scenarios. He also added that parents and relatives of the victims should try to divert her away from the issue.
“Girls should also avoid sharing personal information on the social media, as it could affect them,” said Venkatesh.
A cybercrime expert has admitted that crimes of this nature are difficult to solve as the identity of the person who posted the offending pictures is not easy to find. “Largely, the addresses are wrong and we have to check the device from where the picture was uploaded. This may take some time,” he added.
