Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organization of Coimbatore recently organized a 90-hour-long Akhanda Bhajan Yajnam at Sai Deep Kalayana Mandapam in the city. The bhajans started on September 30 and concluded on October 4.

“One has to understand the meaning and the essence of the Akhanda Bhajan. There are two kinds of bhajans. Khanda bhajan is held for a specific time, either in the morning or evening. Akhanda Bhajan is the constant contemplation of God in all three states; waking, dream, and deep sleep states. We are attempting to achieve just that through our 90 hour long Akhanda Bhajan,” Rajalakshmi Anantharam, member and active volunteer of Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organization of Coimbatore said.

At the venue where the Akhanda Bhajan was organized, annadanam and refreshments were served on all days to the devotees who participated in the bhajans. The group started reciting bhajans on September 30, at 6.00 pm. On October 4, at12.15 pm, the Maha Mangala Aarthi was performed, marking the end of the 90 hour bhajans.

More than 1000 people participated in the Akhanda Bhajan this year.

“When I came to this place I had a very bad headache. I was so involved in singing with the group that my head no longer hurts. I hope such events are organized more frequently,” 37-year-old homemaker Renuka Sharma said.

The Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organization was founded in the 1960s by Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba to enable its members to serve the society as a means to spiritual advancement. One of the objectives of this organization is to spread divine-consciousness among the masses.
