State Youth Wing Secretary of Tamil Nadu V. Ishwaran has submitted a petition to the District Collector today complaining about the shortage and ill maintenance of primary health centres in Chettipalayam and other areas in Coimbatore.

“There are around 15,000 people living in and around Chettipalayam area. A functioning Panchayat Union Dispensary was closed down. People now have to travel 6 km to reach Myleripalayam where there is a Primary Health Centre. But due to lack of proper transport facilities, it is very cumbersome for them to reach the centre. Residents are forced to go to Coimbatore Medical College Hospital for treatment,” he said.

Stating the Government rule that for 30,000 people there should be one primary health centre in a State, Mr. Ishwaran, said that the Government should set up more health centres.

Thondamuthur, Annur, Periyanaickenpalayam, and Sulur were some places where non taluk hospitals were functioning. But there were no hospitals in Madukkarai area. So there was a demand for a new primary health centre in Chettipalayam.
