Importance of the Cardiac Screening Study

The health of a child is the true wealth of the Nation. In India, over 300,000 children are born with congenital heart diseases (CHD), and thousands of them die every year without even basic medical care1. Recognizing this problem and the need to screen and save the lives of infants, children and young adults, the Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Centre for Child Heart Care & Training in Pediatric Cardiac Skills, coming up at Kharghar, Navi Mumbai, launched the Divine Mother & Child Health Program to screen 100,000 children from rural areas for CHD. The Program shall commence in Navi Mumbai and Panvel Taluk of Raigad District. Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani is a dedicated center offering cardiac care for the children of the State and the Nation Totally Free of Cost.

“Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani embarks on its CHD Free Maharashtra Mission, by creating an entire ecosystem conducive for ‘prevention to cure’ with the core value of compassion,” said Mr. C Sreenivas, Chairman of Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Hospitals. “The program aims to take health services to the doorstep of the most needy individuals in the community, especially rural children, and provide quality screening, detection and management services strengthened significantly by active stakeholder participation with nationally recommended guidelines and protocols.”

HD Medical’s HD Steth Employed in Study

Collaborating with a world leading innovator and technology partner, HD Medical, Inc. from the USA, Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani’s DMCHP has deployed diagnostic devices with cutting-edge technology to enable CHD screening of the children at a rapid rate. “HD Medical has developed the world’s first Intelligent Stethoscope with Integrated ECG called HD Steth which can provide Instant Cardiac Insight,” said Mr. Arvind Thiagarajan, Founder & CEO of HD Medical, Inc. “HD Steth enables AI-based real-time visualization of cardiac waveforms and defects on a Bluetooth smart device App that enables cloud connectivity and AI-based interpretations for further analysis and diagnosis, all within a few minutes,” adds Mr. Thiagarajan. This innovative technology drastically reduces critical time lag in diagnosis and fosters evidence-based detection at point of care and Real time collaboration with specialists.

Realizing a Seamless Preventive Health Ecosystem

As an important capacity building initiative, a state-of-the-art Pediatric Cardiac Screening & Training Skills Development Centre shall be set up at the hospital in Navi Mumbai to train medical and paramedical Government staff.

To align with the vision of Government of Maharashtra towards creating a seamless preventive health ecosystem, the DMCHP shall actively collaborate with various Government departments such as the Department of Public Health, Department of Medical Education and Department of Women & Child Health Development.

The DMCHP shall also integrate a comprehensive screening of pregnant women aimed at antenatal and postnatal care. The program shall also cover infant and child health.

To further the nation’s commitment towards a healthy life for its mothers and children, the Divine Mother & Child Health Program emphasizes the need for individuals and institutions to take upon themselves this agenda and focus on the preventive aspect of the healthcare spectrum.
