Bengaluru: Chief Electoral Officer Sanjeev Kumar on Wednesday said that he will review the status of post of Home Minister’s adviser M Kempaiah, who is allegedly blamed for interference in the security affairs of the state.

Commenting on a question on Kempaiah’s allegedly interference, the Chief Election Officer said that they will first find out whether the retired IPS officer’s post is political or official. Action would be initiated against him only after reviewing the status of his job, he said.

The opposition has been claiming that IPS officers are not able to discharge their duties in the state due to regular interference of the Home Minister’s adviser, who is also the close aide of chief minister Siddaramaiah.

A few weeks ago, IPS Officers’ (Karnataka) Association president ADGP Rajvir Pratap Sharma, in a letter urged Chief Secretary K Ratna Prabha to convene a meeting of all IPS officers and some retired IPS officers to discuss “threadbare and evolve a strategy considering our immediate goal of a fair and free election and long-term goal of imbibing strong professional values in the service and police force of Karnataka.’

“Investigations have been hijacked by politicians in important cases and law-breakers have lost the fear of police. Again, I am not trying to be specific at the moment, but I will give specific instances to show that flow of the investigation was changed at political behest. The specialized agencies headed by senior IPS officers have also become redundant on account of such interference,” Sharma had said in his letter.
