The City Corporation has retrieved 1.26 acres of its land from encroachers in the five zones valued at Rs 13.55 crore in the last two days.
The drive was carried out across the zones yesterday and today, and besides retrieving the land encroached by others, the corporation also removed illegal shops constructed at its site, Corporation Commissioner K Vijayakarthikeyan said.
The officials retrieved 40.2 cents valued at Rs 2.5 crore in the east zone, 25 cents valued at Rs 2.5 crore in the est zone, Rs 0.25 crore worth 1 cent and Rs 2.5 crore worth 14 cents in the north zone, he said. Similarly, 46 cents valued at Rs 5.8 crore, located at two places in south zone were also retrieved, he said.
From central zone, the corporation officials were successful in removing illegally constructed shops on 60 cents at various places, Vijayakarthikeyan said, adding that similar drives will continue.
