15-year old tusker electrocuted

A male elephant was found electrocuted in a farm land in Sirumugai forest range in the district today.

Forest officials noticed the carcass of the elephant, around 15 years of age, near an electrified fence of the land belonging to one Manickam in Petthikuttai, department sources said. Post mortem was being conducted.

Based on a complaint, the police said a search was on for Manickam on charges of illegally electrifying the fence.
