Rathinapuri cops on Wednesday apprehended two for selling ganja to college students and labourers, operating from a bakery. Cops acted on a tip-off and arrested Jaffer Sherif (25) and Ajith Kumar (21) of Kannappa Nagar. They seized about 1200 gm of ganja and a bike from the accused.

Various colleges and forces of the police department have been doing their bit to curb drug addiction amongst students.

Earlier, this year in November, Commissioner’s task force (CTF) sleuths conducted a special drive across Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh and identified 55 students addicted to ganja, who were subsequently sent to rehab and de-addiction centres.

The cops also found out that peddlers, most of them youth, were earning lucrative money, selling ganja for as little as two hours a day.
