Thanjavur: Two cashiers working in the Kumbakonam Division of the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) have been suspended for indulging in irregularities and exchanging the demonetised currencies.

The cashiers, identified as M Govindaraj (57) and D Govindaraj (55), had remitted in the bank the demonetized currencies for 10 days since November 9 instead of the other lower denominations and coins originally collected by the conductors from the passengers travelling in the TNSTC buses.

On being alerted by the bank officials on November 18, a team of senior officials of TNSTC conducted enquiry. The officials also visited the bank, verified the remittance slips and found the two cashiers had remitted the demonetized notes to the tune of Rs 3 lakh on that day.

It was also found that the duo had indulged in the irregularities to help some local politicians after receiving commission from them.
