2 youths sentenced for life in murder case

A special court here today sentenced two youths to undergo life sentence for murdering a construction worker in the city three years ago.

The prosecution case was that the accused, Kalidas (25), hailing from Kamudi in Ramanathapuram district and Kaliyappan (21) of Madurai accosted 24-year-old Selvi, wife of Murugan (30) a mason, who were going to Salem on the night of February 15, 2013.

As Murugan had gone to purchase some thing in the bus stand, the youths approached Selvi sitting in the bus and asked her to come with them. As Selvi narrated the incident to her husband, an angered Murugan slapped one of the youths for misbehaving with his wife.

Annoyed with Murugan’s behaviour, the youths pulled him from the bus and stabbed him many times in the abdomen before escaping. Murugan he died the next morning in the hospital.

A few days later, the accused surrendered before the Mahila Court and Tirupur Court. The case was conducted in the Special Court. Delivering the judgment, Justice Christopher sentenced the youths to undergo life sentence and Rs.5,000 penalty.
