Coimbatore, the Industrial Hub of Tamil Nadu, is gearing up to organise the 38th National Junior Athletics Championships from November 7 to 10, 2023 in Nehru Stadium.
The Nehru Stadium, a brainchild of former CHIEF MINISTER DR. KALAIGNAR KARUNANIDHI was constructed in 1971. C Latha, Secretary Tamilnadu Athletic Association along with Tmt.Leema Rose Martin, President, Coimbatore District Athletic Association and Thiru Mohan Doss, Vice President, Tamilnadu Athletic Association addressed the Press.
C Latha, stated that, the Nehru stadium has undergone a revamping with a new synthetic track and runways to host the Junior Nationals. About 2,200 athletes from 29 states will be action. 175 athletes (92 Boys and 83 Girls) from Tamil Nadu will be competing in this National Championship.There are eight age categories in the championships with participants taking part in Boys and Girls under-14, 16, 18 and 20 years.
The Nehru Stadium is glittering with grandeur look, thanks to the initiative of our HON’BLE CHIEF MINISTER THIRU M.K. STALIN and the HON’BLE MINISTER OF SPORTS THIRU. UDHAYANIDHI STALIN, under whose guidance the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu did a marvelous job of transforming the infrastructure of every sporting arena in the state to match with the world-class facilities. Athletes from Tamilnadu have been faring well both at the south zone and national levels by winning several medals.
The following is the list of athletes from Tamil Nadu who represented INDIA in the international championships and will be competing in this Junior Nationals in Coimbatore:
Boys:1) M. Sharan ( 400m)
2) R. Yogeswar (3000m)
3) K. Yuvaraj (Triple Jump)
4) Vedhapriyan (Decathlon)
5) Selva Prabhu (Triple Jump – Best Asian U 20 Male Athlete of The Year)
GIRLS:
1) Abinaya Rajarajan (100m)
2) Ruthika Saravanan (100m, 200m)
3) M. Kanista Teena Maria (400m)
4) Pavithra (400m & 400m Hurdles)
The inauguration ceremony will take place on 7.11.23 at 4.45pm.
Thiru S.Muthusamy, Hon’ble Minister for Housing and Urban Development, Govt. of Tamilnadu will flag off the March Past. Thiru.W.I.Davaram, I.P.S., President, Tamilnadu Athletic Association will deliver the welcome address. Thiru Adille J Sumariwalla, President, Athletics Federation of India will deliver the presidential address.
Thiru Kranthi Kumar Pati, I.A.S., District Collector, Coimbatore, Thiru V.Balakrishnan, I.P.S., Commissioner of Police Coimbatore will participate in the inaugural event.
