An old woman, said to be over 70 years, was found dead under mysterious circumstances in her house in Thudiyalur, today.

Some boys playing noticed the body of the woman, lying upside down in the house in Nehru Nagar, this afternoon and informed their parents, who in turn alerted the police.

Police arrived at the spot and recovered the body and sent it for post mortem.

Quoting relatives of the deceased, identified as Bhakkiammal, police said that the woman was involved in a property related issue for the last few years and some unidentified persons had made a futile attempt to suffocate her to death a year ago.

Suspecting foul play based on relatives’ inference, police are investigating whether the incident was a murder.
