800 tmc water released from Aliyar dam

Water from Aliyar Dam was today released for irrigation in Old Ayacut area in Pollachi and will benefit farmers a round the area for the next 120 days.

The 800 TMC of water will flow till January eight next, benefiting the farmers in Aliyar, Kottur, Anamalai and Pollachi old Ayacut area, Local Administration Minister, S P Velumani said, while releasing the water.

The works to a tune of Rs.250 crore was in progress for the speedy implementaiton of Avanashi Athikadavu project, he said.

Similarly, the government has taken efforts to desilt the ponds and lakes and the silt (vandal) is being given to the farmers so that they get healthy soil for cultivation, Velumani said.

State Assembly Deputy Speaker, Pollachi V Jayaraman, Valparai MLA, Kasturivasu and District Collector, T N Hariharan were among those present at the function
