Members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad celebrated the 133rd birth anniversary of Subramania Bharathiyar at the Government College of Arts and Science here on Friday. As many as 50 members of the organization participated in the celebrations and distributed sweets to the public.
Speaking at the event, M. Prithvirajan, the city secretary of ABVP said that Bharathiyar was a revolutionary poet who worked for the welfare of the society despite his poverty. “In his poems, he addressed many issues that were plaguing the society, like untouchability, and exploitation and illiteracy among women. He loved the country with all his heart and soul,” he said.
He further added that Bharathiyar always wanted the youth of the country to contribute for the welfare of the country. “We should follow his words and work in unison for the betterment of the country,” Prithvirajan opined.
