Coimbatore Medical College Hospital will soon recruit transwomen on a temporary basis.
According to sources from the CMCH, officials from the hospital have tied up with an NGO to recruit them.
“We will first be recruiting two transwomen and will depute them at the ward where patients who are deserted by their relatives are admitted. Later more persons will be deputed after seeing how it works out,” sources said.
Sources further said that transwomen would be asked to work as compounders in the ward. They would be first recruited as temporary workers and later would be made permanent.
Officials also said that candidates would be selected based on their education and conduct.
“Since they will be working in the deserted patient’s ward, they will have to be patient and well mannered,” a higher official from CMCH said.
If appointed, they would be the first transwomen to work in the CMCH. It may be noted that transwoman Selvi is serving in the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital in Chennai as a Physiotherapist.
