Even as a section of the AIADMK cadre were protesting against the candidates chosen for the local body polls in Coimbatore, some members filed their papers in the respective zonal offices in the Corporation here on Tuesday.

The AIADMK released its list of candidates on Monday. However, a section of the cadre who were reportedly disappointed with the list staged demonstrations last evening front of the Idhaya Dheivam Maligai near Anna statue and at various places today. The alleged that seats have been given to new comers based on their proximity to the Ministers.

“There are many seniors who have been waiting for years to get a chance to contest in polls. We thought we will get a chance, but have been denied,” a disappointed cadre said and added that candidates like Deputy Mayor Leelavathy Unni, who had been given the Ward No 73 had not done any development work in her ward.

“She may not win as people are frustrated and disappointed with her. We hope the seat is given to other senior cadre,” another member said. Meanwhile, candidates including Leelavathy Unni filed their papers today.

They were supported by other members who raised slogans in praise of Chief Minister Jayalalithaa.
