All schools in Tamil Nadu have toilets, says minister

Chennai: Finance Minister O. Paneerselvam today informed the state Assembly that all the schools in Tamil Nadu now have toilet facilities, and that the government has now taken up projects to construct separate lavatories for boys and girls.

Replying to a question raised yesterday by the DMK’s Austin, on demands for grants for the education department, O. Panneerselvam said that 2057 common toilets and 5760 separate lavatories were constructed last year, and added that as per the announcement made by the Chief Minister in the House, under Rule 110, the government has achieved the target of constructing toilets in schools. The next project, he said, was ‘to construct separate facilities for boys and girls.’

Answering to the query of Tiruttani MLA PM Narasimhan, the state Revenue Minister RB Udhayakumar said that the government had issued record number of pattas, and has assured that the patta requests for the residents of Nehru Nagar, Periyar Nagar and Akkaiah Naidu Road in the temple town will be considered.

Health Minister Dr. C. Vijaya Baskar said certificate verification was currently going on, in the process of appointing 1,900 nurses, and assured that all the vacancies will be filled at the earliest.
