Former Vice-chancellor of Anna University, R. Radhakrishnan was arrested today in connection with a case of irregularities in purchase of furniture, and also for accumulating assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) had registered the case against him for reportedly accepting kickbacks for the purchase of furniture in 2008 and 2009 and also for possessing assets worth Rs.1.37 crores in his and his wife’s name.
Though the Vigilance Court had issued summons to him twice, Radhakrishnan, who was suspended from his post, had failed to appear before the court, following which a non-bailable warrant was issued.
Police executed the warrant and arrested Radhakrishan today at his Saibaba Colony house and produced before the Vigilance Court. The special judge, KR Madurasekaran, remanded him to judicial custody till August 31.
