The Government Arts college here has so far received more than 7350 applications for the 1359 seats in various under graduate courses.

With just three more days left for counselling, college authorities are having a tough time in short listing the candidates.

A large number of students from Mettupalayam, Pollachi and Tirupur too apply for admission in this college.
“We have only 1359 seats but till now we have received 7358 applications,” said P Jayalakshmi, Principal of the college.

There has been demand from the public for separate campus for boy and girls.

“We have also requested for some additional classrooms this year”, she added.

Local MLA Amman K Arjunan said that he was yet to receive any request in this regard. “Last year, the college sent a proposal requesting more washrooms and the papers are with the PWD for estimation,” he said and added that he would raise this request for separate campuses during next assembly session.

The college has fixed the cut off marks at 800 and it has released the first list for counselling.

The first day of counselling is for differently-abled, children of ex-service men and sports persons.
