Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation Commissioner Dr. Vijay Karthikeyan today launched four projects initiated by city-based NGO Aram for Corporation School students.
According to a press release from Aram, the projects – Project Vetri Palli, Happy Child, Safe Touch Awareness and self defence – are being implemented in the schools for the fifth consecutive year.
Vijay Karthikeyan honoured the 38 volunteers of Aram Foundation Charitable Trust who have worked for the success of the projects all these four years.
Project Vetri Palli is implemented for students of Class X and Class XII, through which the students would be put through memory enhancement techniques, presentation skills in exam, sessions to overcome exam fear and motivational sessions. As a part of this project, the foundation would call for meetings with the parents periodically, during which time counsellors would guide the parents on how to help out their wards score better without much stress.
Happy Child Programme is for students for all classes, that would aim at helping them develop soft skills, train them in anger management, teaches forgiveness includes altruistic behaviour, courteous manners, personal grooming, stamps of appreciation and time management skills.
Through safe touch awareness programme teachers and parents would be trained to identify the change in behaviour in children due to abuse, and how to deal with it. Students would also be sensitised to identify and report abuse.
Through this programme, the rehabilitation of children who have been victims of physical, psychological and sexual abuse with follow up would be done.
Under the awareness and self defence programme girl students of class IX to XII would be taught self defence techniques. They would also be trained on how to be vigilant.
