The alumni association of the Avinashilingam Institute for Home Science and Higher Education for Women would identify and sponsor 60 students of the institute who come from financially weaker section. Their entire fee would be borne by the members.

This was one of the point discussed during the association meeting held here recently to chalk out plans for the diamond jubilee celebrations of the college. (The college is celebrating its diamond jubilee year in January next.)

Sixty women achievers (ex-students of the institute) from various fields would also be felicitated during the celebrations.

The construction of an arch is underway at a cost of Rs. 17.5 lakhs and would be completed by the end of this year. However, it would be formally inaugurated only in January next.

“Around 35,000 are part of the alumni association. They are spread across the world. The members will contribute funds for our projects,” NIrmala Krishnamoorthy, president of the alumni association of the institute said.
