A 56-year-old bank employee gave new lease of life to nine persons in the city.
According to Dr. G. Bhakthavathsalam, Chairman of KG Hospital, the woman suddenly fell unconscious on November 30 while at work. She was rushed to the hospital, where she was diagnosed with high blood pressure, cardio-vascular accident and intra-cerebral hemorrhage.
A team of specialists tried to revive her, but in vain. “Her brain became dysfunctional on Sunday and she also suffered an irreversible brain damage,” Dr Bhakthavathsalam said.
After two mandatory apnoe tests, the doctors declared her brain dead in the evening.
After getting consent of her son and daughter, her vital organs – heart, liver, lungs, kidneys, eyes, skin and bones were harvested on Monday.
The Transplant Authority of Tamil Nadu has allotted the liver and one kidney to KG Hospital, another kidney to Sri Ramakrishna Hospital, eyes to Aravind Eye Hospital, skin and bones to Ganga Hospital, and the heart and lungs to Fortis Malar Hospital/Global Hospitals, Chennai, Dr. Bhakthavathsalam said.
