The Government and the All India Bank Officers Association (AIBOA) recently reached an agreement, according to which, the banks will remain closed on the second and fourth Saturdays of each month, with effect from September 1, 2015. To celebrate the first such holiday on September 12, the AIBOA organised a blood donation and tree sapling distribution camp at Jawan Bhavan, Coimbatore. The programme was inaugurated by the District S.P., Dr. M. Sudhakar.
Referring to the programme, J. Vanangamudi, Coimbatore district President, Confederation of Bank Officers, confirmed that the second and fourth Saturdays of all months have been declared as full holidays for the banks with effect from September 1, 2015. The camp was a small effort by the bank officers for celebrating the newly-gained holiday and also for dedicating themselves to the service to the weaker sections of the society.
The blood donation camp was conducted in association with the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital. Dr. Mangaiyarkarasi and other staff were present on the occasion. Around 30 bank officers and public took part in the camp and donated 15 units of blood to the government hospital.
