Coimbatore: The members of the Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam (TPDK) staged a black flag protest in Coimbatore on Sunday to show their contempt towards Rajyavarthan Singh Rathore, Minister for State for Information and Broadcasting, during his visit to the city.

The protest was held to show their opposition for the construction of a dam on the Siruvani River by the Kerala state government, after the Centre gave its clearance to the project.

Ku. Ramakrishnan, district head of TPDK, said that despite the proposal being against the interests of the state of Tamil Nadu, the Central Government had cleared it to please the people of Kerala.

“Even the ministers at the Centre from Tamil Nadu are against the construction of the dam,” he said.

He further added that the state government should arrange an all-party meeting to take the issue up with the Centre and stop the construction immediately for the benefit of the people of Tamil Nadu.

“We will continue to stage black flag protests against all the central ministers when they visit Coimbatore,” Ramakrishnan announced.
