Winter break is here, and Bookmark has some very special programmes for children who are interested in literature and theatre.

In order to give the kids an opportunity to try their hands at acting and the stage, Bookmark is now hosting their theatre workshop, for children over the age of six. And, the kids and parents alike just love it.

“My mother wanted me to participate in this workshop as she feels I’m good at acting,” says five-year-old S. Deeksha.

The trainers of the theatre workshop, Tharini S., and S. Bala, deserve a special mention. They know how to bring out the expressions of the characters from the little ones who are all under 11 years of age.

Children at the workshop are currently rehearsing a play about an old woman, her maid, and her four children. The play has four scenes and six characters. “The idea of this theatre workshop is to teach children how to portray the character through expressions and emotions,” Bala says.

How difficult is it to teach acting to little kids? Tharini says, “Kids are enjoying their holidays. It is a bit challenging to get them to understand the scene and perform. But, it is fun to teach these little ones the basics of acting.”

As a grand finale, all participants of the three-day theatre workshop will enact this play before their parents tomorrow.
