Chennai: The Principal Special Judge for CBI cases, Chennai, has sentenced a Sub Divisional Engineer of the BSNL and his wife to undergo two years and one-year Rigorous Imprisonment (R.I) respectively in a disproportionate asset case filed by the CBI.
Also convicted was a Chennai-based chartered accountant for arranging false records. The sentences were announced on August 18.
In addition to the rigorous imprisonment, K. Raju, Sub Divisional Engineer (Legal), O/o Dy. General Manager (South East), BSNL Chennai, and his wife, R. Valarmathi, were also ordered to pay a total penalty of Rs. 36,000. Their Chartered Accountant, Ashok Kumar Jain, was also ordered to undergo two years R.I. and pay a fine of Rs. 85,000.
The Anti-Corruption Branch of the CBI, Chennai, registered a case against K. Raju and his wife, R. Valarmathi, for acquiring movable and immovable properties to the tune of Rs.58,86,971 during 1.10.1991 to 2.9.2004, which were disproportionate to their known sources of income.
After completing the investigations, chargesheet was also filed against Ashok Kumar Jain, a Chartered Accountant based in Chennai, for arranging fake jewellery sale receipts in favour of R. Valarmathi, as if she runs a firm, M/s R.V. Enterprises, to show some income from her alleged business.
