Coimbatore : CBI is likely to take over in a couple of days the case of rape and sexual harassment of a few girl students in nearby Pollachi in which five persons were arrested,.

The case at present is being probed by Tamil Nadu CB-CID and is assigned to CBI, following the recommendations by the State Government.

CBI has already filed FIR against eight persons in connection with two cases,including that of an attack on the brother of one of the victims. Formal handing over of the related documents is expected to take place in another couple of days, once CBCID receives the official order, police sources said.

CBI officials are scheduled to reach Coimbatore any time today, they said.

The sensational case was based on the complaint by a 19-year old girl that four persons took her into a car, removed her clothes and took videos of the act and after forcibly removing the gold chain, reportedly sexually assaulted her in February last,

They also threatened to circulate the video and extorted money, the girl had complained.

Police had arrested Thirunavukarasu, Sabarirajan, Satheesh, Vasanthakumar nd Manivannan in connection with the sexual harassment case. and registered cases under various sections and added rape charges recently.

Meanwhile, based on the complaint by the brother of the victims, police had arrested Mani, Senthil and Vasanthkumar for attacking him and CBI had registered FIR against them on Friday last.

Full-fledged investigation will begin once the documents are handed over to the premier central investigating agency, the sources said.
