The City Corporation has identified 159 public utility spaces to create parks, plant trees and raise nurseries and to create green spaces.
The work to identify these public spaces has started with the help of NGOs and colleges students and in coordination with various resident welfare associations in all the five zones of the corporation. These places will be documented using the Geo tagging system.
Accordingly, 40 public utility paces in South zone, 40 in West zone, 37 in North zone and 21 central zones have been earmarked to create these green spaces.
“While public gardens will set up 55 of these reclaimed spaces, 95 spaces will be used for tree planting under the social forestry scheme,” Corporation Commissioner Dr. K. Vijayakarthikeyan said.
