A group of construction workers today called on District Collector and sought his help in getting them money from a promoter to whom they have paid in installment for land scheme.

In a petition, the workers, led by M. Krishnamoorthi, said around 10 of them had joined a scheme announced by Akshaya Promoters in 2013, wherein they had to pay Rs. 2000 for 50 months. After the said period, they were promised of 2.75 cent land worth Rs. 1 lakh. “We paid Rs. 2000 for 20 months. We could not continue the payment due to financial constraints ad also due to lack of credibility of the project,” they said in the petition.

“We paid the money through an agent. But suddenly he stopped visiting us. When we enquired with the promoters, they did not respond properly,” Krishnamoorthi said.

When contacted, Akshaya Promoters owner K.S. Prakash denied the charges. “We are ready to hand over the land even tomorrow provided they pay the balance amount. As per the agreement we had with them, if they fail to pay the money for three months in a row, the deal would be cancelled.”

According to N. Siva, District President of the Hind Mazdoor Kisan Panchayat, nearly 150 members of the union were cheated by the firm. “The realtor promised to pay our money back in installments. But nothing has happened so far.”
