Contract workers working in 84 Corporation schools here have alleged irregularities in their salary payments.

In a petition to the District Collector, T.N. Hariharan, the workers who are involved in cleaning, maintenance and security of corporation schools in the city, said the contractor, Rajesh Kannan, never paid them their salaries on time.

“We are being paid only Rs. 200 as daily wage as against Rs. 415. Out of this Rs. 25 is deducted in the name of provident fund. We were given a PF account number. But when we checked online the balance amount was nil. Our one month’s salary is still pending,” said a worker.

Another worker alleged that they were neither given salary slips nor uniforms. “There is no medical benefits also.

We have complained to Corporation Commissioner so many times. But no action has been taken so far,” he said.
