Delhi: The massive victory of AAP in the Bawana Assembly by-election getting a 45 per cent of vote share much ahead of the BJP and the Congress is a pointer to people distancing themselves from the BJP. Apprehensions about EVMs were removed in this election by use of machines with VVPAT.
But two things stand out. The number of votes polled fell to 1,31,950 from 1,88,660 in 2015 and but the number of NOTA votes went up to 1,413. This calls for converting NOTA to Right-to-Reject in case they get maximum votes and all those losing be barred for contesting any future elections. But the NOTA button should be disabled in byelections as a result of such victories to prevent a chain of re-elections.
