Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner K. Vijayakarthikeyan today gave away certificates to shop owners who have pledged to use eco-friendly bags in their shops. He also released the list of 100 shops that have pledged to use such bags.
In a meeting held at the Commissioner Office recently, it was decided to create awareness among public to stop using plastic bags.
In its effort to make the city a plastic free zone, around 100 shops were identified in the first phase. These shops accepted to switch over to cloth bags.
Releasing the list of shops, Vijayakarthikeyan said that other shops that are willing to participate in the ‘plastic free drive’ can apply to the Corporation for the same and get certified.
