Members of the CPM, including Councillor V. Ramamurthy of the 42nd Ward, and former MP P.R. Natarajan, were arrested by the police when they attempted to protest demanding the completion of road projects in the ward. The protesters claimed that the projects were being delayed due to the interference of ruling AIADMK.

In an attempt to draw attention to the “stepmotherly treatment to opposition party councillors,” Ramamurthy alone launched a fast in the corporation ward office in Chinnavadempatti at around 11 AM. He said that the corporation was not taking up road projects in his ward, despite sanctioning valid tenders, simply because the ruling AIADMK functionaries did not want to complete the works in wards where the members of the opposition parties won.

Police arrested all the party activists, including Ramamurthy, and Natarajan, from the venue.
