A expert culinary chef today sought to dismiss several myths about diabetic food that it was a special meal that only a diabetic can eat or it is bland and boring.
The chef Madhu Wadhwa, demonstrated to a large gathering of diabetics and their families how to make mouthwatering dishes that are not only health but easy to make and appeal to all the family members.
The session on special cooking demo “Cooking for diabetes” at Dr Mohan’s Diabetes Specialities Centre here, witnessed making of eight dishes.
On additional burden on those using kitchen, Madhu said that it was easy to prepare and less time-consuming recipes that can be prepared at home on a day to day basis.
“Diabetic friendly meals are often perceived as boring, limited options to choose from and tedious to prepare. I strongly believe that it all depends on the method of cooking, ingredients used and recipes. A healthy diet goes a long way in keeping diabetes at bay,” she said.
According to Dr. Ravi Kannan, Consultant at the Centre said, “It is important for individuals suffering from Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes to keep an important check on the food they consume apart from the prescribed medicines and treatment.”
