Coimbatore : With reports of EVMs malfunctioning in the first phase of Lok Sabha polls, particulaly in Andhra Pradesh, the Election Commission should ensure the credibility of EVMs and restore confidence of the people in them, CPI National Secretary, D Raja said Sunday.

Many political parties have expressed concern of the functioning of EVMs and many incidents of faulty and malfunctioning were reported even before, Raja told reporters here.

With six more phase of polls to go, EC should ensure credibility of EVMs so that the voters should have confidence, he said.

When asked about the remarks of union ministers, Nitin Gadkari and Piyush Goyal on the 8-lane Chennai Salem green corridor and NEET respectively, Raja said that BJP had its own agenda and and it would try to bulldoze the States’ rights.

Gadkari’s statement this afternoon over the green corridor was proof that the BJP was pursuing its own agenda and not bothered about the State , Raja said.

Gadkari had said that he will would discuss with the farmers on the issue even as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, K Palanisamy was in constant touch with him over it, despite the thousands of farmers losing lakh of acres of cultivable land, Raja said.

Why was BJP ally PMK silent on the issue, as it was the party which had gone to the court against the project and got its verdict, he asked..

On the NEET issue, Piyush oyal had yesterday said that he would try to convince the AIADMK to continue the test for medical examinatons, Raja pointed out.

These showed that BJP never bothered about the rights of the States and wanted to impose their agenda, he said.

To a question on the general trend of polls, Raja said that BJP is on its way out as the mood of the people is against Modi and BJP government,.

On post-poll scenario, the veteran CPI leader predicted that a secular democratic coalition government would be in place once the BJP government was removed.
