Efforts to take up metro rail project in next financial year: Velumani

Steps will be taken for starting metro rail project in Coimbatore during the next financial year, Municipal Administration Minister S.P. Velumani said today.

The Minister disclosed this during a meeting with industrialists on implementing the GST, that would come into effect from July 1. Velumani also assured them all possible help to solve their problems. “The Chief Minister will hold discussions with industrialists and corporates on the issue,” he said.

Later talking to mediapersons, he said efforts are being taken to desilt Siruvani reservoir, the major source of drinking water for Coimbatoreans. “Discussions have already begun with Isha Yoga Foundation in this regard,” he added.

On law and order situation, Velumani said compared to other States people and actors were very safe in Tamil Nadu.

In a separate meeting, he also discussed the issue of land acquisition for International airport expansion with the owners, an official release said.
