Eight killed in van-omnibus collision

Eight persons, including three women, were killed and 32 others injured in a road accident, involving a van and an omnibus, at Valanadu, near Manapparai, Trichy, this morning.

The occupants of the van, all belonging to Thirumalaikeni village, were on their way to the Uppiliappan Temple, through the Nattham Thuvarankurichi route. En route, near Valanadu, at around 10.55 am, the van was hit by an overspeeding omnibus. In the impact, the van toppled, and its occupants were thrown out. Eight persons died on the spot.

District Collector Palanisamy, D.I.G Arun, and S.P. Senthil Kumar rushed to the spot and supervised the rescue operations. The injured were admitted to Tiruchi and Manapparai Government Hospitals.

The omni bus driver fled the spot after the accident.
