Elephant kills 60-year old man, injures two others

Coimbatore : A 60-year old man was killed and two others injured, when an elephant attacked them at Poondi reserve forest area, 30 kms from here on Sunday.

A group of people were on a pilgrimage on the Velliangiri, a hill shrine in the forest area, for the Tamil New Year when a lone tusker attacked them, police said.

The man, Aruchamy had along with some others had gone to draw water from a rivulet as part of pilgrimage,when the elephant suddenly chased them from the river side.

Though a few of them managed to escape, the animal trampled on Aruchamy killing him on the spot and injuring two others, they said.

The injured were rescued and taken and admitted to the Government Hospital here and the body of Aruchamy was kept in the mortuary.Coimbatore, Apr 14 : A 60-year old man was killed and two others injured, when an elephant attacked them at Poondi reserve forest area,30 kms from here on Sunday.
