The 30-year old female elephant, which is suffering from stomach-related problem, may require treatment for another couple of days.

The elephant was found lying in a field in Periya Thadagam on the outskirts four days ago and forest veterinarians revived it after administering medicines, vitamins, fodder and staple food.

However, the elephant, which had gone to forest area, returned back yesterday and fell, unable to stand, necessitating the forest department to take it to the camp at Chadivayal, where it is being treated.

According to forest department sources, the elephant was made to stand with the help of a crane. Since it is fatigued and not able to consume on its own, the elephant will be kept in the camp for another two days and released to the forest only after total recovery, they said.
