Energy conservation programme for college students on August 18

An orientation programme to educate college and polytechnic students about energy conservation is to be launched on August 18 at PSG College of Technology, Peelamedu. The event named ‘Energy Ambassadors 2017’ will have the participation of students from Coimbatore, Tirupur and the Nilgiris.

Organised by Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation Ltd., Coimbatore region, in association with P.S.G. College of Technology, Peelamedu, Coimbatore, Rotary Coimbatore Galaxy and Indian Association of Energy Management Professionals, Coimbatore Chapter, the programme is to train students and their facultyr on energy conservation methods. Participants will be made ‘Energy Ambassadors’, according to a statement from the organizers.

Students will also do a project implementing energy conservation methods at the college or an industry and apply conservation techniques and help in achieving reduction in power demand and energy consumption.

The trained students will apply energy auditing and conservation techniques in various establishments and help in achieving the goal of saving up to 1 lakh units daily.

Entry will be free for students and faculty, the statement added.

A similar programme was conducted for school student by the same organisation in association with the Rotary Club of Coimbatore Galaxy where 1,300 students were made `Energy Ambassadors’ Parivarthan (change).
