Five get lifer for murder of a cricketer

A special court here on Thursday sentenced five persons to undergo life sentence for the murder of a youth in the city some two years ago.

The prosecution case was that a five-member gang attacked one 23-year-old Rajeshkumar, while he was playing cricket in a ground in VKK Menon Road in the city on October 10, 2015.

The gang members chased Rajesh, who ran for safety and entered into a mobile shop. However, the gang, carrying lethal weapons continuously attacked in the shop, resulting in Rajesh’s death. Police registered cases and arrested Ramakrishnan, Ajithkumar, Shakti Karthik, Shaktivel and Arunpandian and the case was going on in a special Court.

Delivering the judgment, the Judge, Gunasekaran, sentenced all the five to undergo life sentence for the murder.

He also sentenced them to undergo one year imprisonment for using lethal weapons and 10 year imprisonment for trespassing into a shop, which will run concurrently.
